Bray Wyatt is the latest in a long line of dark and creepy wrestling characters. The gimmick is part cult leader, part Cape Fear. (All due respect to Waylon Mercy who had a great name but couldnt wrestle worth a shit) It should be really stupid. And to be fair, the current devil horn hoodie Bray wears isn't helping. It should be failing as it did in the past. It's not though, and that is due to the buy in of the man playing the character.
Windham Rotunda is a third generation wrestler. His grandfather was Blackjack Mulligan and his father was IRS (Irwin R Schyster). His first gimmick, Husky Harris, was well, not good. Rotunda tried but there wasnt much there. Wyatt though, was a breath of fresh air. He could always go in the ring. The only thing missing was the persona. Bray Wyatt gave Windham Rotunda a mouthpiece. He is without question one of the top talkers in the business. Check out some of his promos below to see what I mean. The vibe is there even if the content is muddled. The in ring work is top notch as well. His spider walk, while accomplishing nothing of substance, is nonetheless cool. His finisher, Sister Abigail, looks devastating and is all the more impressive due to his relative size. He really is the total package and should be able to take over for The Undertaker when he retires as the resident "spooky" guy.
Not to be overlooked is the Wyatt Family as well. Luke Harper is about as good as it gets in the ring and plays creepy southern uncle to a T. Braun Strowman is an absolute monster and given time could turn in to a very credible wrestler. Erick Rowan, injured at the time of this writing, has the potential to be amazing but plays the lost sheep well.
