WILW: Entrance Music

Entrance music has long been a staple of the modern pro wrestling business. Depending on who you believe, the first person to use entrance music was either Gorgeous George in the 40’s coming out to Pomp and Circumstance or Sgt. Slaughter in the 70’s using the Marine’s Hymn. The practice didn’t really take off until the 80′ though with guys like Hulk Hogan and the Fabulous Freebirds making it a real part of the show. Since then however, entrance music has been key. The pop associated with those first few notes of certain themes is undeniable. A returning wrestler can have their music play and the crowd will go crazy. A new wrestler can debut with a catchy tune and solidify their debut. Every song is met with either wild cheers or vicious boos. Presented below are a few of my current favorite entrance songs. (WWE anyway) These are the tracks that I mark out to, the ones that get me hyped. Lots of clips below but well worth the time. Follow me on twitter and instagram, @geekadedan, and let me know what you think is the best theme in wrestling today.

Dan Ryan

Dan Ryan was once the most feared and respected luchador in the world until the "Great DDT Disaster of '85" where Dan unfortunately DDT'd his opponent so hard into the ground that he opened a gate to the underworld that let unholy things into this world. After that, Dan refused to wrestle anymore but he's found new life writing and talking about his favorite hobbies here at Geekade. He pens the weekly Why I Love Wrestling series, co-hosts The Stone Age Gamer Podcast, expertly pairs video games with beer, and much, much more. Dan is a personality that Geekade simply would not be the same without.
