PITAthon 2019: Gliitchwiitch vs. Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts

Meanwhile, in the world of Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts, Nurse Pretendo gives Arthur some “brief” assistance…

We’re returning to the Ghosts n’ Goblins franchise this year with the SNES classic, Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts. Technically, we’ll be playing the Super Famicom version of the game, which is actually harder, believe it or not. But wait, there’s more! (in a couple paragraphs…)

WHEN:

Saturday, August 10th from 2pm-4pm

Who will be playing:

Who’s playing this one isn’t a Geekade staff member at all. In fact, she’s our very first special guest! Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts will be played by Kat, AKA Gliitchwiitch. She’s a variety speedrunner / Twitch streamer who specializes in mostly in retro games. She tends to run games that haunted or caused her pain as a child to really get revenge on them, which she says is the most satisfying feeling. Some of her favorite games include The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy 4, and Crystalis. She has a lot of experience with the Ghosts n’ Goblins franchise, and she plans to kick the ever-loving crap out of Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts.

You can check out her channel here.

Why it’s a pain in the ass:

This is a franchise that’s built its entire reputation on being just horrifically difficult. In fact, a few years ago Dean and Rega took a swing at the NES version of Ghosts n’ Goblins on the PITAthon and didn’t manage to make it past level 3. The SNES game is not only arguably one of the best games in the series, but it’s also one of the most fair. The difficulty is still off the charts, but if you can learn it, it’s pretty manageable. Which is what Kat has done. She speedruns this game. So where’s the challenge in that? Well…

After she finishes blasting through the masterpiece that is Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts, she’ll spend the remaining time playing the not-so-masterpiece that is Ghouls n’ Ghosts for Sega Master System. This little gem is tougher than nails, and not something that a lot of folks have put a ton of time into, including Kat. It should provide a nice frustrating ball of challenge to finish out her time at the event.

And again, she’ll be enduring that AFTER having taken down one of the toughest SNES games around, twice. (Because that’s the only way to properly beat it).

That’s all for today. Check back next week for our next game announcement, and a fresh Nurse Pretendo adventure!!!
