Why I Love Wrestling: CHIKARA

So the thing about wrestling is that it can be many different things to many different people. Over the years, there have been an insane amount of performers from the biggest promotions in the world, like WWE and NJPW, to the smallest, your local indy show, putting on a show to entertain the fans. One somewhat overlooked aspect of professional wrestling is comedy wrestling. Comedy wrestling has a long-standing tradition of being overlooked by the bookers that run the promotions. Comedy wrestlers are often pushed down the card and not given the respect they deserve. Today, I want to spotlight one quick comedy spot from a CHIKARA show. CHIKARA is run like a comicbook. There are heroes and villains, grand storylines, and a family fun environment. It is very much a lucha libre promotion including the high flying and masks. It’s fun, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. I’ll have much more on CHIKARA later but for now check out their site, http://www.chikarapro.com/, for a ton of cool content and to see upcoming shows. Check out the clips below to get a taste of what CHIKARA has to offer. The first clip stars the Kentucky Gentlemen Chuck Taylor and Archibald Peck taking some time out mid match for a quick photo op. The second clip is the CHIKARA video podcast and gives a general overview of some current happenings. Leave a comment and let us know what you think or what you may want to see in the future.

Dan Ryan

Dan Ryan was once the most feared and respected luchador in the world until the "Great DDT Disaster of '85" where Dan unfortunately DDT'd his opponent so hard into the ground that he opened a gate to the underworld that let unholy things into this world. After that, Dan refused to wrestle anymore but he's found new life writing and talking about his favorite hobbies here at Geekade. He pens the weekly Why I Love Wrestling series, co-hosts The Stone Age Gamer Podcast, expertly pairs video games with beer, and much, much more. Dan is a personality that Geekade simply would not be the same without.
