Twelve Days of Questionable Xmas #7 – Diner
Diner is a movie about endings. The end of the year, the end of the 50’s, the end of teenage douchebaggery, and the end of single life. It is a fantastically funny film with an amazing cast. (every time Steve Guttenberg is onscreen is amazing, not to mention Daniel Stern and Mickey Rourke) Set in Baltimore at Christmas, this group of friends get up to all manner of shenanigans while making frequent stops at the diner. A diner, for those of you who may not know, is the closest thing to heaven that exists. It is a place where you can order damn near any meal imaginable and it will be not only served hot and made fresh but will also be delicious and come with a side of sass, courtesy of your waitress. It is a northeast staple and something the rest of the country (I know they exist other places but it is not the same) misses out on. So do yourself a favor. Grab a beer, some disco fries, and watch this flick at Christmas. It’s a wonderful combination.
