Vilification of Tony Stark

Hero or villain? Marvel can’t decide.

Everyone knows and loves Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man. However, the same cannot be said of his comic book counterpart.  In the movies, Tony Stark is charismatic, endearing, and everyone’s favorite party guest.  He has long been my favorite hero in the comics, but for the past decade, Marvel has been pushing him further and further into villain territory, sullying a legacy that goes back even before his role as a founding member of the Avengers.

Judging by Covers

When it comes to comics, you should totally judge a book by its cover

We’ve all been told not to judge a book by a cover, and typically this is actually referring to people, and I have to agree with this idiom.  But when it comes to books, especially comic books, judging by the cover is typically a large factor in the decision making.  That’s like saying we shouldn’t judge a movie by its trailer, when in fact that is exactly what you should do.

Do You Remember Your First Time? I Do.

How one collector got his start

If recent history is any indication, we all love comics.  How else would the biggest Hollywood blockbusters be based on the four-color ‘funny pages’ so many of us grew up on?  Marvel’s The Avengers is the third highest grossing movie of all time, with its forthcoming sequel set to break that record. The Iron Man and Christopher Nolan Batman trilogies are among the biggest franchises in recent years.  Comics have even taken over our TV screens with the recent success of Arrow, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Flash, not to mention the countless cartoons we’ve seen over the decades.
