Loved this podcast as someone whose allegiances were split between Nintendo and Genesis. The one omission from this list was something from the Phantasy Star series, where I thought Sega did a great job of overcoming/managing the console’s limitations — particularly the intro to Phantasy Star 2 or almost any track from Phantasy Star IV (Thray/Rune, Motavia Town, Organic Beat, Dungeon Arrange 1, Dungeon Arrange 2 (!!), King of Terrors, End of the Millenium, etc. etc.). Maybe a future podcast!

Matt and I were thinking about Phantasy Star and Shining Force, but ultimately just barely didn’t make the list. We’ll be sure to give them the proper treatment one of these days though.

Also, while I’m at it I’ll give a plug to another set of games with great music, the Ys series. The Falcom/JDK sound team was incredible, and they also are the only game music composer group I know of that would release music videos where they’d play their songs as a live band (complete with electronic guitar and practically hair metal).
